Playing With Fire

Posted on March 29, 2007 Filed Under Graphic Design 80 Comments

Well, I have been getting into logo design lately and using mostly Fireworks to do the designs and sometimes a little Photoshop too! I am quite amazed with how much these programs are capable of achieving once some time is spent learning about all the features. I have really taken a liking to Fireworks and have started getting some impressive results from using the program.

Quality Logo

Here’s one of the logos I put together. On this logo, I used the Ellipse Tool for the sun and also the vector Knife Tool for making some of the fine slices for the smaller pieces.

The thing that I find most enjoyable about doing the designs is how much it gets the creative juices flowing. I am the type of person that gets bored easy with doing the same thing over and over. Repetition gets old and creating art with Fireworks is always a new and motivating experience for me. I especially like that every time I use the program, I learn about a new feature or trick way of doing things with the program. I am glad that I took a little time out and started playing with fire!

I love Fireworks! In my opinion, it is entirely more intuitive then Photoshop (for those of us who don’t have the time to take a college course just to learn the basics.) :)

Kool Skool! Nice to hear from another person that likes Fireworks!

I use the program pretty much every day to make web site elements, blending graphics together and gradients and other things like that.

I do find it easier to use than PS too. Some parts of it are a lot the same as PS and do the same things or close. But for some reason the interface is just more intuitive, as you said! Seams easier to move around in the program and menu functions and understand them.

Thank you Summer for the comment.

That’s a good design, but I don’t like the lines around the sun part they look a little odd. So have you decided not to change your logo since this was designed long time ago, but I think the part below the sun looks really good.

My, that’s a nice looking logo. Its very eye catching, and the black background is a perfect choice if I don’t say so myself. I see you used pink for the title and its also used subtly as the tops on some of the suns rays. The green is the.com as well as some larger pieces of rays of the sun, which brings the whole picture together nicely. I think if I had done it I would have replaced the blue with some yellow and green.. but that does make blue though so I guess it’s a nice choice after all haha

I have been using PS and Illustrator for quite a lot of years now, I think Illustrator is my favorite.

Never really got into Fireworks as all our designs for everything are done in Photoshop and Illustrator. I have heard that Fireworks has a really good compression engine for squeezing down images for the web. Pencil and paper is also good for logo design

    Ryder,

IMHO your logo is fantastic, nice and simple. Every logo should be very simple, clean, and with not too many shapes, not too many colors and also not too many tiny details and of course one idea. Good logo is one which is easy to remember.

Your logo has 3 colors, 3 different shapes, small number of tiny details and gorgeous idea or concept. If I managed to grasp the concept of your logo, is that color of qualitynetdesign is like fire which burns in small quantities but echoes far far away. Meaning of your logo is so powerfull like qualitynetdesign.

Keep up with fantastic logo design, and of course playing with fire. ;-)
